Interview with "Melissa & Joey" Guest Star Greer Grammer

Today I got the opportunity to chat with Kelsey Grammer’s daughter, Greer. She plays Lissa on the MTV show Awkward and is currently guest starring on ABC’s Melissa and Joey.

You’ve been guest starring on Melissa and Joey recently, how did you get involved with that?

“Basically I just kinda auditioned for the part and was lucky enough to book it!”

Were you a fan of the actors before joining the show?

“Oh yeah of course! Being a kid of the 90s/2000s I grew up watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch and all of the Lawrence Brothers movies so I was a huge fan of theirs. I also knew Taylor and Sterling for about 7 years now.”

Cassandra and McKenna are complete opposites on the show, which one are you more like?

“Oh that’s a hard one, I’m kind of a mix of both. If I had to choose I would have to say McKenna because I’m usually pretty bubbly and happy all the time for the most part. In general I’m a mix of both because I’m also really cool and edgy. But, I’m usually more bubbly, so I’ll go with McKenna.”

Who’s style is most similar to yours?

“Definitely McKenna! I love dresses and cute skirts. I’m very girly with my style, but I love getting to wear the clothes that Cassandra wears.”

What show are you currently nerding out over?

“Oh it’s so hard because everything is off season right now, but I am obsessed with Scandal. It’s my favorite show. I love it! Like Thursday nights don’t talk to me, I’ll be in my house watching TGIT.”

I know that you graduated recently from USC, is there any advice you can give students that are trying to get into the film industry?

“Yeah, if you are in school really appreciate it and work really hard. I was filming Awkward, but I took summer courses so that I could graduate on time. I really think that it is important because you learn so much. I would say to take a lot of different classes. If you want to be a director you should absolutely take acting classes, because you learn what it is like to be on the opposite side of the camera. And vice versa, if you want to be an actor you should definitely take directing classes, because you know your shots and the terminology that directors use that is super helpful on set.”

Speaking of Awkward, what do fans have to be excited about Senior Year at Palos Hills High School?

“So much! It’s senior year so things are bigger and crazier. There’s a lot of Jenna and Matty. There’s Prom, it’s so much fun! Lissa becomes in charge of Prom and the theme is Enchanted. You can catch a glimpse of it in the trailer. We also have Senior Week, which is really fun. We try to do a bunch of senior pranks that go horribly wrong. It’s just a lot of fun senior stuff!”

I saw on your Instagram you posted a picture by the pool with this huge white blimp what was that?

“Yeah that was for lighting! It’s so that they have more control over where the “Sun” is, because the actual Sun was glaring down at me in that moment. So when I was trying to do my scene with Brett I couldn’t look at him, because it was so bright outside. It’s just for lighting, but it looked really cool and fancy. Lissa hanging out by the Country Club pool and Jake is there.”

I know that you are obsessed with all things Disney, is that something you could see yourself doing in the future?

“Absolutely! My dream is to be a Disney Princess! I would love to voice a Disney character. I actually applied to become a Disney Princess at Disneyland about 5 years ago, but I wasn’t able to do it because the mandatory training conflicted with the Awkward pilot. The timing didn’t work out and I was pretty upset since it was my dream. I would love to be a part of some of the live action movies like if they did Tangled or The Little Mermaid or anything. I would be so happy just to live out my dream.”

Is there anything that you can tell us about what is going to happen tonight on the Melissa and Joey?

“Tonight Lennox finds out about what happened last week between Zander and McKenna. We also start filming the Cassandra series. It’s fun to see the dynamic between Lennox and Zander with McKenna on set and the professionalism between them.”

You can watch Greerg on Melissa and Joey June 17th and June 24th on ABC Family at 8/7c. Awkward Season 5 premieres August 31st on MTV at 9/8c.
