The Masked Singer is back! The fifth season of the wacky singing competition returned on Wednesday night with a new wildcard twist, guest host Niecy Nash, and some out-of-the-park guesses from judge Ken Jeong.
In case you missed it, here’s a recap of what went down in the season premiere.
Russian Dolls
The first act of the night was the Russian Dolls duo. The clues for these two included saying “A Russian doll can sometimes have 15 replicas of itself”. They performed a stunning rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”. This is clearly someone who can sing and has been doing this for quite sometime.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: (well thanks to some Twitter detectives) Hanson
Snail
This mysterious critter’s clue package included things like “acted, directed, produced, released albums, even graced the Oscars stage” along with “rubbed elbows with “Robert DeNiro, Lady Gaga and Michelle Obama.” His performance of Hall & Oates’ “You Make My Dreams Come True” was more karaoke night than Radio City Music Hall.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: I have no idea.
Raccoon
This person is known for being incarcerated and was on the brink of death. They said that they battled back from the brink of death and got a second chance to do things right. His rendition of The Troggs’ “Wild Thing” is BAD. Like really bad. I’m shocked we could find something this awful since Tiger in Season 3.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: actor Gary Busey
Porcupine Robopine
This Robopine tells Niecy and the judges he is not an ordinary porcupine. He has the voice to back up his claims as he performed a flawless rendition of Luther Vandross’s “Never Too Much.” Some of the clues included a can of soda, a lock and key, DNA helices, and George Washington. Here’s the thing – I’ve heard his voice before but I cannot place it.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: Actor, singer, and producer Jamie Foxx
The Unmasking
Once all the masked celebs had got done singing, Niecy returned with the results. She revealed that the studio audience had eliminated Snail. Once he was unmasked, he was revealed to be Kermit The Frog! Okay, I admit – I did not see that coming!
