Although we’re only one month into 2021, I think it’s pretty safe to say that “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo is already the song of the year.
In just a few short weeks, “Drivers License” has broken all kinds of records, including the Spotify record for the most single-day streams for a non-holiday song (achieved on its fourth day of release), and the biggest first-week for a song on Spotify and Amazon Music. The song also debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 as one of the most dominant number-one hits in history.
Rodrigo’s debut single is a stunning pop power ballad that packs emotional punch after emotional punch. The detailed storytelling throughout her lyrics makes listeners relate and feel each emotion. If this is any indication of what’s to come, Rodrigo is one to keep an eye on.
With all of that being said, “Drivers License” is the perfect song for this month’s Cover Wars!
