Brandon Leake Wins Season 15 of “America’s Got Talent” In Historic Result

THE WINNER IS... - America's Got Talent 2020

15 seasons of America’s Got Talent and the show still somehow continues to find brand new talent. Case in point, Wednesday’s season finale saw spoken word artist Brandon Leake crowned the winner of the $1 million prize and the headline show in Las Vegas.

The 27-year-old earned judge Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer in the auditions. Back then, host Terry Crews said Leake was “about to put spoken word on the map like it’s never been before.” And boy, was Terry right about that.

Leake became a fan favorite following his quarterfinal performance about the Black Lives Matter movement and he followed that up with poems about fatherhood and family. As Terry announced the winner, Brandon fell to his knees and Howie jumped to his feet with excitement.

“This is bigger than just me; this is a huge win for the spoken-word community,” Brandon said. “For an art form that has not been in the mainstream ever, to have a chance to win America’s Got Talent is bigger than anything.”

The season’s runner up were country duo Broken Roots. They were actually eliminated during the Judge Cuts but brought back as a wildcard for the live shows. The former police officers went from having never performed six months prior to their audition to having performed with country superstar Blake Shelton on Wednesday’s finale.

Brandon Leake and his unprecedented win has paved the way for more unique talent for seasons to come and I cannot wait to see what is next for him.
