Exclusive Interview with London Boyce

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, London Boyce is a triple-threat. She’s an actress who can be seen starring alongside Janelle Monáe in the upcoming thriller Antebellum. She’s an author whose self-published book I Hate My Curly Hair came out in April. And aside from being an actress and author, she is also a young entrepreneur who, with her brother Thomas Boyce, has an ice cream truck called Boyce Kids Cream Machine.

I got the chance to talk to the young powerhouse about what got her into acting originally, what it was like working with Janelle Monáe, whether or not she has plans to write more books, and more! Keep reading to see what she had to say!

What got you into acting originally? 

My brother TJ is an actor and he made me want to act too. 

Later this summer, we can see you starring alongside Janelle Monáe in the movie Antebellum. What was it like working with her?

Awesome. She’s very nice and we always have fun on set. 

Do you have any dream roles you’d like to be cast as?

I’ve always wanted to have my own Disney or Nickelodeon show

In addition to being an actress, you are also an author! Where did the idea for your book I Hate My Curly Hair come from?

It’s based off my life. I didn’t like my curly hair and I felt different from my friends. 

What do you want other kids to take away from reading your book?

I want them to be happy being themselves. I love my curly hair – it’s my super power. They should love themselves too. 

Do you have plans to write any more books anytime soon?

Yes, my next book is already written. I want to have an entire ‘Wonder London’ series of books. 

Not only are you busy with writing and acting, you also have an ice cream truck with your brother called Boyce Kids Cream Machine, which I think is so cool! What made you guys want to start selling ice cream?

Our parents wanted us to learn about entrepreneurship. 

Going off of that, what’s your favorite kind of ice cream?

Chocolate.

Last question — we’re called Talk Nerdy With Us because we all have an inner nerd so what is something that you’re currently nerding out about?

I’m nerding out on Roblox and building myself a modern house.
