‘America’s Got Talent’ Season 15 Premiere Recap: Welcome to the family, Sofia!

America’s Got Talent returned for its 15th season on Tuesday with Modern Family star Sofia Vergara joining Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, and returning judge Heidi Klum on the judging panel.
The show featured pigs doing tricks, singers, and really cool variety acts. In case you missed it, here are the best and worst acts from week one of auditions.
The Good
Malik Dope
The drummer from New York put a whole new spin on drumming as he brought originality and charm to the stage, performing the songs “Look At Me Now” and “Mi Gente” as he danced and even moonwalked while playing. So cool!
The judges were on their feet and Sofia said she wanted to get up on stage and dance. Fun fact: she actually did get up on stage to dance while Malik played the drums but that did not make the final cut. Malik got four yeses from the judges and advanced to the next round, living up to his name.
Vincent Marcus
The impressionist hit the stage and if you had Vine back in the day, you’ll know exactly who this guy is. He showcased his rap skills as he impersonated Eminem, Jay Z, and Pitbull. He got the audience on their feet and even host Terry Crews was dancing along on the side of the stage.
Vincent earned four yeses from the judges and advanced to the next round. I am pretty excited to see what he can pull out of the bag in the next round.
The Bad
Eileen Chase
Not every act was at the top of their game. The worst of the night was Eileen Chase, who was a singing and dancing whoopie cushion. It was so bad that she got the red X quickly from all the judges.
Episode Notes
- Sofia’s judging debut was a little slow but I’m sure with a few more episodes under her belt, she will find her footing on the show.
- It was great to see Heidi back on the panel after a season away. She fit right back in and has moved a seat down, sitting next to Howie. Those two will have some great banter this year.
- This week’s Golden Buzzer belonged to San Francisco’s Voices of Our City Choir, whse group consists of homeless and formerly homeless singers from around the city, including some who have been helped financially by being in the choir. Host Terry Crews was so impressed that he went down and hit the Golden Buzzer, sending the group into the live shows.
