‘Riverdale’ 4×15 Recap: The truth about Jughead is finally revealed

After tons of speculation, Wednesday night’s episode of Riverdale confirmed what everyone had already figure out: Jughead faked his own death and is actually alive and well.

So how did we get to this point? Let’s dive into this recap, shall we?

The perfect murder

Let’s start with the obvious, Jughead is alive and I think that’s something we all knew from the moment the midseason finale when Archie, Betty, and Veronica were standing in the woods burning Jug’s beanie. Fast forward to the big reveal and we find out that FP, Betty, Alice, Veronica, Archie, and Mary were all in on the plan.

The plan was pretty solid; Betty threw a closed-casket funeral for Jug, staged a fake kiss with Archie to show that she ‘moved on’ and so much more. The Stonewall Prep douches felt that this was too good to be true and they’re right about that. So how exactly did Jughead pull this off? It looks like we’ll get all the answers to those questions in next week’s episode based on the preview.

Donna cracks

We got some very revealing news in this portion of the episode. First off, Donna thinks that Betty switched the bloody rock that ‘killed’ Jughead (and she’s right, obviously). How does she know the rock had Jughead’s blood on it? Because she watched Jonathan apply it! She calls Betty at 3 a.m., you know like a normal person, and says she believes Jughead is alive and hiding out somewhere.

Donna basically stalks Betty to find out the truth but Betty is on to it and uses Archie as a cover. She’s freaking out at this point and goes back to Brett at Stonewall, telling him that she saw three Pop’s milkshakes in the bunker, so Jughead must be alive. Brett tells her to calm down, that they successfully killed Jughead. That’s when Donna’s psycho meter is turned up to 12 and she slaps Brett, telling him she’ll kill him like she did Jonathan if he ever orders her around. Uh, WHAT? Did we know Jonathan was dead?!

The episode ends with the gang down in the bunker as Veronica presents a document that Hermosa dug up on Donna. Whatever this is is so juicy we’ll have to wait until next week to find out.

Other Thoughts

• One fall back from Jughead’s plan? Old feelings. Archie and Betty reassured their significant others that the fake kisses and romance were all for show. However, Archie and Betty were texting each other kissy-face emojis and Archie wrote out he’d kiss Betty anytime before deleting it. Hmm. Is Barchie going to happen for real?!
• Did anyone really believe that Jughead was dead? I know I didn’t, so it feels like this brief storyline was basically for nothing.
• After seeing those milkshakes, I really want a Pop’s diner in my city. So cool!
