‘The Masked Singer’ Recap : Group B round begins with a surprising reveal
One thing I love about The Masked Singer is its ability to shock you with who is under the masks of those crazy costumes. Thursday night’s episode saw Group B begin their fight to make the Super Nine and ended with one shocking reveal.
In case you missed it, here’s a recap of all six performances and the unmasking:
Frog
The purple suit-wearing amphibian kicked the show off. His clue package gave away hints that he was a “tadpole plucked from a large creek” and showed a 1996 (Olympic?) Games stub. His performance of MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” was not on key, but it did get the crowd going.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: I don’t know! I’m stuck!
Elephant
Up next was the Elephant, who appeared to be an athlete based on his clues. He sang a pretty bad rendition of The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love” and I swore I heard an accident when he said the word “Thursday”. Maybe British or Australian?
Who is behind the mask? My guess: I don’t know but I’ll take a stab at it and say Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons
Kitty
The furry feline was next and a few things stood out about her. First, the eyes on the costume were two different colors. Is this a hint or am I looking too much into it? Second, she is pretty short and the judges even commented on that afterward. Her performance of “Dangerous Woman” by Ariana Grande was pretty good, but I don’t believe this is a singer.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: former Simple Life star Nicole Richie
Taco
I love me a good taco on Tuesdays but can we talk about Taco Wednesday? Yes, that’s right, the delicious menu item was up next and his mic was a salsa bottle. So funny! Anyway, his clues about being “a comforting part of your lives for decades” hinted he was older and there was a VHS tape in his clue package. His performance of Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” only confirmed that.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron.
Mouse
This was the easiest guess of the entire night. The clues did not help at all but maybe that was by design? As someone who loves all genres of music, I knew that voice as soon as she sang Oleta Adams’ “Get Here”. Add in the fact she has an older tone to her voice and moves slower, it was obvious.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: Music legend Dionne Warwick
Banana
Probably my favorite costume of the night belonged to Banana, even though I’m not a fan of the fruit itself. In his clue package, he had a cowboy hat and blue-collar. So I’m thinking this is a country artist. His performance of Elvis Presley’s “A Little Less Conversation” was very strong and this is clearly someone older.
Who is behind the mask? My guess: I’m just spitballing here but country artist Darius Rucker.
The Results
After everyone had performed, host Nick Cannon returned with the results. He revealed that the Elephant had gotten the fewest votes from the audience and was going home. Before leaving, Elephant was revealed to be professional skateboarder Tony Hawk!
