3 Questions Following Night 3 of ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’

WARNING: This article contains spoilers about Tuesday’s episode of The Flash, part three of the Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. 

The third part of the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover – and the last part we’re getting until the new year – answered some questions, left viewers with more questions, and ended with one hell of a cliffhanger.

Here are three questions I have following night three of the ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ crossover.

What in the hell happened?

I think this a question that every single fan has on their mind after watching this episode. Throughout the episode, Diggle was pissed for two reasons: first, his best friend Oliver died and he wasn’t there to save him and second, Lyla is missing. Well, she was right up until the end.

Harbinger returns to the Wave Rider but can’t remember anything about where she was. Barry and Ralph quickly figure out that the Anti-Monitor had been controlling Harbinger and Pariah the whole time. However, they were not quick enough to stop Harbinger, who killed the Monitor, and reinitiated the anti-matter wave, which ultimately destroys Earth-1.

Before that can happen, Pariah was able to teleport the seven paragons – Barry (Love), Batwoman (Courage), Supergirl (Hope), Ryan Choi (Humanity), Martian Manhunter (Honor), Kingdom Come Superman (Truth), and Sara (Destiny) — to the Vanishing Point. But this is where things get crazier! Kingdom Come Superman begins to vanish and he’s replaced by Lex Luthor, who used a scrap of paper to make himself the new Paragon of Truth.

So yeah, what the hell just happened? Lex Luthor replaces arguably the strongest hero left and suddenly I feel that the six remaining paragons are at a massive disadvantage.

How the heck are viewers going wait until January after that ending? I know I’ll be re-watching and counting down the days till we can see what happens.

What’s Oliver’s new role?

Mia, Diggle, and Constantine head over to Earth-666 (hint hint) to try and revive Oliver’s soul and return it to his body. The group travels Purgatory, which looks a lot like Lian Yu. And in case you haven’t seen or don’t watch Arrow, Lian Yu means Purgatory in Mandarin.

Anyway, they track down Oliver but in a surprising twist, he doesn’t go back. That’s because he’s approached by a guy named Jim, who calls himself “a specter”. He tells Oliver he’s destined to become “something else”.

So what is Oliver’s new role? As someone who read the comics, I know the answer to this question but I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t. I will just say I think fans will enjoy it once the show returns from the Christmas break.

Will major characters die in ‘Crisis’?

This is one of the biggest questions I have as the crossover heads into its big two-hour finale in the new year. In the comics, Supergirl and Barry Allen both died along with several other big characters, but obviously, both Kara and Earth-1 Barry are safe.

I can’t help but feel like some of the new characters on these shows such as Kamilla and Allegra on The Flash are going to stick around as it’s hard to believe they were just put in for a couple of episodes. Also, the writers wouldn’t introduce a new character like Ryan Choi if he was only going to be a part of the crossover. If the crossover event doesn’t end with at least one “big” death, I think they will have missed the mark.

Episode Notes

• I am a huge fan of the Mia character, I know I’m in the minority on that. But is the only reason Mia is in the crossover was to get the metaphorical torch passing from Oliver and to be hit on by guys?
• Speaking of Mia getting hit on, she was hit on by Lucifer Morningstar. It’s always good to see Tom Ellis reprising his role as the devil.
• With all of the Arrowverse shows having to finish the second half of their respective seasons, it is obvious that Earth-1 will be brought back as will Jefferson’s family on Black Lightning. I’m interested to see how it will happen though.
