3 Questions Following Night 1 of “Crisis on Infinite Earths”

WARNING: This article contains spoilers about Sunday’s episode of Supergirl, part one of the Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. 

For the past year, the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover has been hyped up and boy did it live up to the hype. Supergirl kicked off “Crisis on Infinite Earths” in a big way on Sunday but not everyone made it out unscathed.

You better believe I have questions, so here are three I have after night 1.

Is Oliver really dead?

The first hour saw all the heroes in the Arrowverse head to Earth-38, home of Supergirl and National City. The wave of anti-matter is quickly sweeping through the multiverse and the planet needs to evacuate. After fighting off several thousands of Shadow Demons, Oliver Queen makes the ultimate sacrifice, giving up his own life to save as many lives as he could.

Oliver dies surrounded by Mia, Barry Allen, and several others. A stunned Monitor looked on and said he did not foresee this happening to Oliver so early. If the Monitor is shocked, you know shit is going to hit the fan in the next four episodes. But this begs the question, is Oliver really dead?

Ever since last season, viewers knew Oliver was destined to die in “Crisis on Infinite Earths”. However, I don’t think this is that time. Oliver’s last stand should be in a fight with the Anti-Monitor, not some Shadow Demons. Viewers know that Sara Lance and Thea are just two of many characters who were given a second chance at life and something tells me that Oliver will be one of them too.

What exactly did Nash do?

Remember that post-credit scene from last week’s Batwoman where Nash Wells was speaking to what we thought was the Monitor before a blinding light and being sucked into the wall? Well, Sunday’s episode confirmed that Nash actually released the Anti-Monitor and must now be known as Pariah, a servant who must be forced to bear witness to the tragic events that follow.

So what did Nash do exactly? I’m sure we’ll get a full look on Tuesday during The Flash hour of the crossover. I imagine there will be a big flashback sequence or something to tells us how Nash transformed into Pariah.

Is the future changing again?

Oliver’s death shocked everyone but no one was more stunned than The Monitor. Did you see the look on his face? That alone tells you that this crossover will be crazy. So far, things are not happening as the Monitor saw them, which isn’t good. There’s a chance the Anti-Monitor wins and everyone is doomed.

Let’s be real, that’s not going to happen. But is the future changing? The fact that the Monitor wrongly predicted when Oliver would die is telling. Oliver dying too soon means events won’t unfold the way he originally said. This is how I assume the writers will ensure Barry survives and doesn’t die, which was one of the biggest reveals coming into the season.
