The CW is planning a female-led ‘Arrow’ spinoff

Oliver Queen may be leaving Star City, but his daughter may be sticking around for a little longer and she won’t be alone.

Deadline is reporting that The CW is developing a spinoff of Arrow, which would revolve around Oliver’s daughter Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara) and the Canaries, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy-Rodgers) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy).

The trio of ladies would form a new Team Arrow with Mia continuing her father’s legacy as the Green Arrow. The show is being set up as a backdoor pilot which will air on an episode sometime during the final season. Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama are all writers on the project.

The news comes after CW president Mark Pedowitz told reporters in August that Arrow was important to the network and that that specific chapter may not be closing despite the show coming to an end.

“Nothing is ever 100 percent done,” Pedowitz said. “You learn that over time. There’s a possibility, but we haven’t had a discussion about what that storyline will do as [we plot the] next generation [of DC shows]. There is another property we’re looking at for the following season.”

Arrow returns to The CW for its final season on Tuesday, October 15 at 9/8c.
