Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Ritchie to return as ‘American Idol’ judges

When American Idol returns for its 18th season next spring, the judging panel will look exactly the same. ABC announced on Monday that Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie have all signed deals to return to the show.

American Idol is the original music competition series,” said ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke in a statement. “It was the first of its kind to take everyday singers and catapult them into superstardom, launching the careers of so many amazing artists. We couldn’t be more excited for Katy, Luke, Lionel and Bobby to continue in their roles as American Idol searches for the next great music star, with more live episodes and exciting, new creative elements coming this season.”

Most notably absent from the announcement is host Ryan Seacrest. He has hosted the show since the first season and despite his long-term overall deal with ABC, he has not been confirmed to return yet. Burke said Monday that Seacrest is still negotiating a deal but she believes he will return to the show .

“I do not believe he will be missing,” she said. “We’re in ongoing conversations with Ryan about returning, and I’m hopeful that he will.”
