CBS renews ‘Love Island USA’ for Season 2

Get ready for another summer of romance and second chances. CBS announced on Thursday that it has renewed Love Island USA for a second season.
The news of a renewal comes despite disappointing ratings for the show’s first season. Currently, the show is averaging just a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and around 2 million viewers per episode. That’s far less than the UK version, which drew a record 3.6 million viewers for its finale on Monday night.
Despite the disappointing ratings, the network spent $30 million to bring the show to the states, so a renewal isn’t too much of a surprise.
“The passion of Love Island‘s audience is incredible,” said Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment. “The intensity of their social media engagement has created tremendous enthusiasm for the series here at the network. We love the show’s creative execution and can’t wait for next season.”
Love Island USA follows a group of singles, known as “islanders”, who come to a villa in Fiji looking for love and friendship, and the chance to potentially win $100,000 . Every few days, the Islanders must couple-up and those who fail to find a partner risk being dumped from the island.
