*Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched Season 2*
Bring yourself back online – we finally have a better look at what’s in store when HBO’s hit series, Westworld, returns next year. However, the new trailer (preceded by a teaser released before the Game of Thrones finale) asks more questions than it answers.
Dolores has made it out of the park with her new lackey in tow, but who is in the Hale host body? I’m curious to find out if the five “hosts” she snuck out with her are characters we’ve met. I’d list Angela (Dolores’ previous sidekick) s a possibility if she didn’t blow up when she took out the host backup drives. It’s sadly not Teddy, who’s been left in the Valley Beyond.
Dolores is also joined out in this new world, the “real” one, by other mystery characters portrayed by Lena Waithe and Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul. What is she after and how will she use humans to help her?
Bernard’s whereabouts are unknown, though he looks to be plotting something as well. It’s clear following his conversation with Dolores at the end of the Season 2 finale that their paths will cross again. She needs him and he needs her, though he’ll likely try to be her foil at every turn.
Maeve is back as is Hector! But it appears the Western park is gone for good, likely scrapped after the disaster that was the host uprising. The new park appears to be set in Nazi-occupied territory during World War II; the famous 1939 song “We’ll Meet Again” sadly drifts through a montage of scenes. Hopefully, Maeve maintains her consciousness and is able to override any attempt to keep her in a loop.
I don’t even know what’s going on with William/The Man in Black or if we’ll be seeing him in a future timeline as a host or not. A clip in the trailer proves he’s very much still alive, but Dolores certainly has bigger problems now such as infiltrating Delos and the easy, minor goal of world domination.
While we await the third installment of the series, check your core drives, restart your loops, and get out of the maze!
