‘The Flash’ Comic-Con recap: Two seasons in one, Bloodwork, and Cisco’s staying put

The upcoming sixth season of The Flash is expected to be the most exciting and thrilling one yet, something that was confirmed with the release of the teaser trailer for the upcoming season and by what the show’s stars and producers said at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday afternoon.

In case you missed it, here is a recap of The Flash news coming out of San Diego Comic-Con.

Cisco is staying put!

The biggest question everyone had at the end of Season 5 was if Carlos Valdes would be returning to the show in the fall.

Carlos himself has now set the record straight. Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at San Diego Comic-Con, he revealed he is staying put and warned fans to not always believe what they read.

“I can’t tell you how many people have come up to me, have written to me, have yelled at me, have cried at me, about me leaving the show,” he said. “I’m like, ‘I’m learning shit about myself that I didn’t know – this is crazy!’ So, for me, it’s a cautionary tale: don’t believe the rumors. I’m here. Season six, I’m here.”

Tom Cavanagh’s new role

At the show’s panel on Saturday, it was revealed Tom Cavanagh will be taking on another new role in addition to yet another version of Wells.

In Season 6, he will play Pariah, a character whose unorthodox experiments to view the creation of the universe result in the Anti-Monitor (to also be played by LaMonica Garrett) learning of the existence of his Earth and destroying it with waves of anti-matter. Pariah will be introduced just as the Bloodwork case ends, and will officially launch the show into the “Crisis” crossover. What is not clear is if Pariah will stick around after the “Crisis” crossover and be the villain for the second half of the season.

A New Tone

Showrunner Eric Wallace said Season 6 will have a much different tone compared to seasons past, calling it a “season of thrills and chills”.

Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash/Barry Allen, added to that: “It feels like the show has matured. I can feel it getting darker. But we’re still The Flash.”
