Charlie Barnett joining ‘Arrow’ as series regular for final season

We already knew that Arrow‘s final season was going to continue to feature the 2040 storyline. Well, the future just got a tad more crowded as it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday afternoon that Charlie Barnett is joining the superhero show to play John Diggle Jr., aka J.J.
Fans will recall that the adult son of John Diggle and Lyla Michaels was only mentioned briefly in the 2040 flash forwards when it was revealed that he is the leader of the Deathstroke gang. He and his adopted brother Connor Hawke have a dysfunctional relationship and viewers will likely see the two battle each other in the upcoming season.
“J.J. has a bit of an edge to him,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim said at the show’s panel. “Fans are going to be really surprised about the way we bring him in…and particularly what costume he wears.”
The 31-year-old actor joins the show after spending three seasons as firefighter/paramedic Peter Mills on Chicago Fire and having most recently co-starred in Netflix’s Russian Doll.
