‘Batwoman’ to tell Hush origin story in Season 1, Burt Ward to appear in Arrowverse crossover

Batwoman officially makes her Arrowverse debut this fall and The CW is pulling out all the stops to make the first season start with a bang. During the show’s inaugural San Diego Comic-Con panel, some tidbits about the first season were dropped and one very big name was teased.

First, Burt Ward – the actor who played Robin on the original Batman TV series in the 60s – will appear in this year’s crossover. It was not confirmed if Ward will suit up as Robin but with the news that Brandon Routh is suiting up as Superman, I’d say the chances of Ward appearing as Robin are high.

It was also revealed the first season will see the introduction of Tommy Elliot, the alter ego of the villain Hush. For those who don’t know, Elliot was a childhood friend of Bruce Wayne before he killed his abusive father in a rage. He was sent to a psych ward where he eventually adapted his Hush persona.

However, don’t expect Hush to be the season’s big bad. Producer Caroline Dries said on Saturday’s panel that fans can expect the first season to see Kate Kane’s – aka Batwoman’s – life connecting to the villain Alice, something they borrowed from Greg Rucka’s Elegy storyline.

“As we go into series you’re going to realize that’s really Kate’s journey over Season 1 trying to redeem the humanity she knows is still inside of this monster,” Dries said. “That’s really what makes the show unique. Some said do it end of the season, but we knew too many people were familiar with this content, so we decided that’s what the show is about — make this about Kate and her sister.”

As for whether or not Batman make an appearance on the show, Dries said “anything is possible”.
