‘Riverdale’ Season 3 finale: What the hell happened during Spring Break?

WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers from the Riverdale Season 3 finale

After a scary, dark, and downright bizarre ride, the third season of Riverdalehas come to an end, but not before leaving viewers with one big question.

The episode kicked off with the core four of Betty, Jughead, Archie, and Veronica getting weird letters, inviting them for a dinner. As they sit down, Penelope Blossom explains why they are all there. She reveals she has been in cahoots with the Black Hood, aka Betty’s father, and the Gargoyle King, who is revealed to be Chic. However, it was Penelope who was truly in charge of it all from the beginning.

Why? Because she wanted revenge for her husband murdering their son, Jason Blossom. Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to me either.

Anyway, Penelope sets the foursome on one final journey through the forest. They each had to take part in a task, and if they didn’t complete it, they would die. Archie faced off against a bear (well, a guy in a bear costume), where he won and possibly killed him. Veronica and Betty had to play Russian roulette with poisoned drinks, while Jughead fought with Chic. Betty also had to kill her father or watch her friends be killed, but she declined to do it, saying she won’t be a killer like her father.

Penelope then shoots Hal dead and orders the rest of her gang to kill the foursome. Cheryl and Toni arrive just in time and help save the day.

The biggest shocker was saved for the final moments. The gang is back at Pop’s and want to toast to a great senior year. No more deaths, murder mysteries, or twisted games. They even make promises to be friends forever.

But this is the town of Riverdale, nothing can be happy and good for too long. A flash forward reveals that during spring break of their senior year, something goes very wrong. Betty, Veronica, and Archie are seen in the woods, covered in blood. Betty orders Archie to burn Jughead’s beanie, saying they must never speak of this night, and that when they graduate, they will go their separate ways. It’ll be the only way to make sure no one ever finds out.

Next season is going to be wild!

Episode Notes

  • The other storyline involved more The Farm. Alice goes to Edgar to find out more about the rumors of selling body parts, but Cheryl interrupts them. Later, we find out that the entire farm group disappeared, leaving only Kevin behind. Betty and Jughead find out that Alice was working with the FBI this whole time to stop the farm and as it turns out, the FBI agent is Charles, Betty and Jughead’s half-brother.
  • I have feeling Charles really isn’t Charles. It just doesn’t make sense for Alice to be working with the feds.
  • Cheryl with her brother’s dead corpse in their attic was just so creepy and gross.
  • Lastly, Hiram gets his wife arrested from inside prison. It looks like Veronica’s in for a tough time in Season 4.

What did you think of the finale? Does Jughead die in the future? Let me know in the comments below!

Riverdale returns to The CW for Season 4 in the fall.
