Games of Thrones: Top Moments of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”. Please do not read if you have not seen the episode or read ahead at your own risk of being spoiled.

There is SO much to unpack from last night’s episode of Game of Thrones.

It’s the calm before the battle, the wrap up of lives they won’t come back to again. It’s the farewell of it all.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” delivers an emotional, intimate and character/relationship-driven episode with some truly unforgettable moments as everyone in Winterfell prepares for their last night before it’s all over (depending on who will survive, I guess).

Here are the top moments from this episode:

Jaime goes to trial

Jaime stands before everyone as he awaits what is coming to him; the man that has done so much harm just by being a Lannister himself. But throughout the albeit short season, Jaime has shown a lot of character growth and is now committed to fighting for the right side, fighting for survival. That whole scene was nerve-wracking because you just didn’t know what to expect.

But the way Brienne vouches for Jaime is admirable and coming from her, that’s enough to change Sansa’s perception of him as a whole. Brienne of Tarth to the rescue!

Bran calls back to what Jaime said when he threw him off that balcony in the pilot, “The things we do for love.”

*Yells*

What! A! Come! Back!

Sansa and Dany (try to) work it out.

Sansa and Dany started off with tension in the premiere. But as Dany makes her way to having a one-on-one conversation with Sansa, it seems as if they are ready to burn the awkwardness. However, as meticulous and smart as Sansa is, she brings up her concern regarding what will happen to the people of the North, and how they swore to never bow down to anyone again. That moment takes Dany aback. Sansa is really trying to hold onto to her home as much as she can. Dany sees her fierceness and it feels like that moment between them just added more fuel to the fire.

Theon and Sansa reunite.

I think Theon has atoned for his sins. Yes, he’s done some horrible things in the past. But I think he deserves forgiveness and Sansa and Bran both forgive him. Sansa runs into his arms and that embrace is touching. Theon saved Sansa from Ramsay and she will never forget that.

Brienne becomes a Knight.

The title of this episode is “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and boy was that a moment. Brienne finally became the title of Knight that she rightfully earned a LONG time ago, but because of old traditions, it was impossible for a woman to hold that title. Like Tormund says, “F*ck tradition!”

This moment was beautiful and heartfelt. It’s especially heartfelt because Jaime is the one that makes it happen. The amount of respect, loyalty, and love Jaime and Brienne have for each other says a lot. They have come a long way and seeing him know that she is meant to be a Knight was a powerful moment.

THAT Arya and Gendry scene. That is all.

Fans have speculated that a passionate and intimate moment between these childhood friends was on it’s way for a while now, but wow did this episode deliver. Though, for some, it may be hard to grasp given Arya still looks like a child. But she is 18 and she has definitely had a thing for Gendry for seasons.

Arya not wanting to die a virgin was kind of a… normal thought to have, right? I mean, everyone wants to do something epic before they die. Some want to drink in a circle, some want to sing, some want to sulk in their misery and Arya just wanted her last night to be the moment of her first.

Jon reveals his identity to Dany

I was looking forward to this moment the most. Jon gives Dany the cold shoulder throughout the episode, which concerns Dany. But you know, I don’t blame him. He was just trying to process his new reality.

But as Jon reveals the intense news to her, Dany is PISSED. He’s the true heir to the iron throne. He’s her competition.

It’s funny because Jon really doesn’t want it. He never wanted that much power and he knows this will change everything between them. But for Dany, taking back the iron throne has been her main goal since the gecko, and now she sees the man she loves as a threat.

THE DEAD ARE HERE.

Episode 3 will give us the biggest and longest battle scene in TV history. It’s going to be epic, it’s going to be gruesome, it’s going to crush us. It’s the end, you guys.

Other notable moments:

  • I feel like this episode just foreshadowed which of our favorites will die. Guesses: Theon, Jorah, Brienne, Greyworm.
  • Missandei and Greyworm are the outkast of Winterfell. As the only Black people there are, it hurts to see them looked at differently.
  • I feel for The Hound.
  • When the girl came up to Ser Davos, you can tell he was thinking about Shireen. Ugh, her cruel death is still breaking my heart.
  • Tyrion and Jaime moments are some of my favorite moments.
  • Cersei? Where you at Cersei?
  • Sam is a brave fella. Will I ever get tired of him saying that he was the first to kill a white walker? Nope!

The final season of Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9pm on HBO!
