WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the 11th episode of season five of How To Get Away With Murder titled “Be the Martyr”. Do not read if you have not seen the episode or read ahead at your own risk.
Thursday night’s episode of How To Get Away With Murder saw Bonnie (Liza Weil) and Nate (Billy Brown) finally come to the realization that the now deceased DA Miller may have been innocent and had no role in the death of Nate Sr.
The episode kicks off with Bonnie playing the audio of Miller’s call with the warden for Nate and Annalise (Viola Davis). Bonnie feels Miller was innocent, but Nate isn’t convinced and heads out to dig up some proof to show he didn’t murder an innocent man.
At this point, Bonnie was already feeling guilty over killing a man she loved. Hearing the audio of Miller, who is likely being innocent, has her completely hitting rock bottom. She attempts to commit suicide by letting her car run inside the closed off garage, but Frank (Charlie Weber) finds her before too much damage is done. Weil did such an amazing job here. She portrayed someone feeling such guilt and turned that into something truly heart-wrenching on screen.
Nate is very suspicious and digging up dirt on what Miller was doing, despite protest from Frank. The digging causes the FBI to seriously look at Nate as one of the main suspects in the case of Miller’s disappearance. That is until Nate gives them a sample of his DNA to have tested against the DNA from the gun that killed Nate Sr. We come to learn that the DNA does not match, which means the test results were doctored. But why and by who?
The FBI tells Nate that they have a suspect in custody and they hope he will be able to provide answers. As the episode ends, it is revealed Gabriel (Rome Flynn) is in need of a lawyer and who did he call? None other than Annalise.
Episode Notes:
- The other plot of the episode involved the Keating 4 trying to hide the fact that Nate murdered Miller from Tegan. However, it looks like she’s going to meet with the FBI next week so we’ll see if they’re successful.
- Laurel was REALLY upset with Bonnie, demanding to know what baby Christopher saw. I feel she was just a little too harsh about it.
