‘Gotham’ 5×06 recap: Bane is born as Barbara makes a big reveal

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from Gotham Season 5, Episode 6 titled “13 Stitches”. Please do not read the episode if you have not seen the episode or read ahead at your own risk.

The final season of Gotham continued on Thursday with an episode that saw betrayal, drama, and one big reveal we all should have seen coming.

The episode kicks off with Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) chasing Jim (Ben McKenzie) trying to kill him on the orders of Eduardo (Shane West) and Walker (Jamie Murray). Now its obvious Jim won’t die for a few reasons. One, he is the main star of this show, and two, he needs to be police commissioner in the future. Obviously, Ed fails in his mission and Jim takes him back to the GCPD.

At the GCPD, Jim meets with the main group of this show to come up with a plan to stop Eduardo. But little did he know Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) had a plan of his own: leaving Gotham for good. His plan is foiled thanks to a new villain, Magpie (Sarah Schenkkan). This storyline is basically pointless and filler for this episode, so I’ll come back to this later.

Eduardo and Walker use the brain-altering chip against Jim as they revive his old flame, Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin). Jim must have remembered Harvey’s (Donal Logue) advice from a few episodes ago “shoot to kill” as he rams a pole through Eduardo’s chest, killing him instantly. However, thanks to Walker giving him a mask with a chemical substance to breathe, Eduardo is alive.

Ladies and gentleman, Bane has officially been born.

Walker isn’t done with her antics yet; she activates the chip implanted in Lee, which prompts her to attack Jim. After the two tussle, Jim finally gets Lee down and everything is okay. Or so we think.

At the end of the episode, Barbara (Erin Richards) visits Jim and reveals something came about from their little night of fun at the office. Barbara is pregnant! Oh Jim, you had office sex – you sly dog!

Episode Notes:

  • So back to that pointless Penguin storyline real quick. The only notable thing that came of that little part of the episode is Selina (Camren Bicondova) agrees to leave with Penguin.
  • The other plot of the episode saw Jeremiah (Cameron Monaghan) kidnapping Alfred (Sean Pertwee) and taking him back to Wayne Manor. He has some plan to torture Bruce and judging from next week’s preview, that leads us to ACE Chemicals. History-making television next week! BE THERE.
  • Seriously, if Lee is going to moan and whine about her and Jim’s past relationship, he should have just offed her in this episode.

The final season of Gotham airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Fox.
