‘Good Trouble’ 1×07 recap: Love and Basketball

Good Trouble Season 1, Episode 7 | Love & Basketball | Freeform

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from Good Trouble Season 1 episode 7 titled “Swipe Right”. Do not read if you have not seen the episode or read ahead at your own risk.

Things got steamy on Tuesday’s Good Trouble as the ladies of The Coterie went on Shipper – the show’s version of Tinder/Bumble/whatever other dating apps the kids are into today – to find some dates. All in all, this episode was nothing too big. It felt like a filler episode, as nothing really added to the main plot of the season thus far.

The weirdest thing about this episode you ask? Well, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) takes part in a threesome. Yes, you read that correctly. Mariana went out with a guy, but he turned out to be an ass. She is rescued by a different guy at the bar, but it turns out this guy had a girlfriend. He invites Mariana to their house to hangout with said girlfriend. As it turns out, this couple is quite open with their relationship and they actually wanted Mariana to join them in their fun. I’m pretty sure you can guess what happened next.

The little sister goes home to Callie (Maia Mitchell) and tells her about what happened. But Callie didn’t even ask her about the details. Uh, I sure wanted details. Anyway, Callie is boring in this episode because while she does have sex with Gael (Tommy Martinez), despite their no-sex pact, she tells him they need to take a break so she can study for her exam. I get school is important and all, but how boring. After not sticking to the no-sex pact, she realizes Gael is too much of a distraction and decides to temporarily stop seeing him until she passes the bar. We’ll see how long this lasts…

Meanwhile, Alice (Sherry Cola) had a nice moment after getting her heart broken a few episodes back. She has a nice date with Joey (Daisy Eagan), a radio host, and they have a makeout session at The Coterie. But that’s interrupted when a crying Sumi (Kara Wang) knocks on the door. Alice, being the sweetheart that she is, sends the radio host home and comforts Sumi, to which prompts Sumi to respond with “I love you.” Alice is happy until the next morning when she finds out the wedding is still on. Alice ends up heartbroken again, which does not sit well with me. But this episode ends on a positive note for Alice. She ends up calling into Joey’s radio show, apologizes for what happened and asks for a second chance.

The last part of the episode saw a tribute to the movie Love & Basketball. Malika (Zuri Adele) swiped right on this guy Isaac (Sarunas J. Jackson), but he did not swipe right on her. Awkward. They end up meeting at the bar she works at and the two of them hit it off. But when he asks for her name, Malika brushes him off and tells him about how he never swiped right on her. Issac concedes and leaves the bar, but comes back later that night with a new plan on how to get Malika to go out with him; inspired by their earlier conversation about rom-coms and her favorite movie Love & Basketball, he challenges her to a game of basketball. The two play ball before they end up doing a different kind of playing later.

So overall, while nothing much happened in this episode, it was a nice way to take a break from the main storyline.
