Man Crush Monday: Good Trouble’s Tommy Martinez
If you plan on watching Freeform’s newest show, Good Trouble, then Tommy Martinez is a name you will soon become familiar with.
Martinez was born in Venezuela and then moved to Florida when he was 4 years old. He moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting after he dropped out of college because he didn’t feel like he was moving towards anything during his time there, according to an interview he did with A Book Of. He modeled for the first two years he was in California, which allowed him to find his footing in acting classes as well as support himself.
While he’s best known for playing Ghoulie leader Malachi on Riverdale, it’s this new role as Gael on Good Trouble that is sure to be his biggest one yet. I mean, look at how happy he was when he got this life-changing part. How can you not root for this man?
Executive Producer Joanna Johnson described Gael to EW as a “beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, talented artist, Latin guy who lives on the roof in the old greenhouse” and causes a little drama between sisters Callie and Mariana.
I’ve seen the first couple episodes of Good Trouble and Martinez brings all of that to Gael and so much more. Gael is complex, emotional, kind, supportive, charming, and most importantly extremely sexy. And spoiler alert: he’s also bisexual, something that is rarely depicted on television, especially with males. Gael is a character that we’ve needed on television for a long time and I’m excited to see what Martinez does with him as the rest of season one continues to unfold.
So here’s to you, Tommy Martinez. Thanks for being you!
Good Trouble premieres tomorrow, January 8, at 8/7c on Freeform. Make sure you follow Tommy on Instagram.
