Jesse L. Martin returning to ‘The Flash’ following medical leave

Team Flash is finally getting Detective Joe West back in the saddle after an extended absence.

TVLine is reporting that Jesse L. Martin, who plays West, is returning to the set of The Flash following a medical leave and he’s expected to be back on set filming this week.

Martin suffered a back injury during the show’s summer hiatus, and as a result, he only filmed scenes while sitting once the show returned for season five. He last appeared in the fourth episode and is now expected to return in the 15th episode.

Showrunner Todd Helbing explained to TVLine that Martin’s absence from the team will be addressed and viewers will get an explanation as to where he’s been all this time.

“There’s an explanation, and then there’s another sort of thing down the line that will give more explanation as to why [Joe] was gone for so long,” he said.
