What happened to Season 3 of MTV’s Scream?
Has the mysterious Ghostface slashed his final victim on MTV?
As we approach the end of the year, one of the biggest mysteries on television is regarding the third season of MTV’s Scream: The TV series. In case you’ve missed it (which is entirely possible), here is a quick rundown of what we know about the show.
- MTV announced the show was renewed for a third season back in October 2016.
- Rumors swirled that MTV planned a reboot for season three and the network confirmed that news in April 2017. Queen Latifah would serve as the executive producer.
- In July 2017, MTV announced Tyga, CJ Wallace, and Keke Palmer would all join the cast. Filming would take place in Atlanta and the season would be just six episodes long. This would be the last time the network confirmed any news about the show.
- Since then, other sources reported that Mary J. Blige and Tony Todd had also signed up.
So where is Scream? Well, we know filming wrapped a while ago. But will it ever air? Probably. Question is, will it be on MTV? Hard to say, but the network seems to be moving away from the horror genre and focusing more on reality TV.
New seasons of The Challenge, Ex On The Beach, and Teen Mom are all set to premiere in the new year. Should Scream air on MTV don’t expect too much promotion as it is pretty clear they are done screaming.
Another option? Netflix or Hulu could pick it up. Until then, we wait…

Scream SN 3 would have failed anyway, MTV took a lot of flack that they rebooted it with a new cast, fans all want the original cast from SN 1 and 2 to return, not to mention that season 2 left fans with a really big cliff hanger and fans were very angry with that and that there would be no resolve to those characters and finish their story. Needless to say I think MTV new it was hopeless and realized they fucked up with the fans so they just canned the whole project altogether, it will air at some point most likely on Netflix or go straight to DVD/Blu Ray either way we have seen the last of this show. The only other possible reason for the long wait is that perhaps MTV knowing they pissed off fans had to bring back the original cast and shoot some extra stuff in the hopes it can close their story out that fans can accept.
