We are just over a month away from the biggest weekend for Broadway fans. No, I’m not talking about the Tony Awards.
From January 11-13, 2019, some of Broadway’s biggest fans, performers, and creators from classic and current shows will gather at the Hilton Midtown to perform, discuss, debate, and celebrate theatre. BroadwayCon 2019 will feature panels, performances, interviews, workshops, singalongs, and more, all packed into an epic three-day weekend. Past panels have included previews from upcoming Broadway shows, conversations with the casts and creatives of the season’s hits, and discussions featuring the industry’s top producers and designers, not to mention the giant Opening Celebration and nighttime fun and games.
Programming for this year’s convention is still being announced, but I’ve put together a few CAN NOT MISS highlights from the BroadwayCon 2019 schedule (so far).
Friday, January 11th
1:45 pm Spotlight: Harry Potter the Cursed Child – Grand Ballroom
Members of the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child cast share stories from their time in Harry’s wondrous world.
3:00 pm Spotlight: Mean Girls – Grand Ballroom
The cast and creatives of Mean Girls are coming to share all the gossip about working on the show. It’ll be fetch!
7:40pm Spotlight: Be More Chill – Grand Ballroom
Direct from play rehearsal, members of the cast and creative team of the hit show Be More Chill will be on-hand to share some of their mad gigantic feelings about their upcoming Broadway run.
Saturday, January 12th
11:15 am Spotlight: Come From Away – Ziegfeld Ballroom
Come check in with the Come From Away team who’ll share what it’s like to tell this inspiring, real-life story eight times a week.
1:45 pm Andrew Rannells In Conversation – Ziegfeld Ballroom
You’ve seen his work on stage and screen, now hear Andrew Rannells and BFF Zuzanna Szadkowski sit down to discuss his life and upcoming memoir, “Too Much Is Not Enough.”
3:00 pm BroadwayCon Star To Be 2019 – Ziegfeld Ballroom
Come see performances by the convention’s 10 finalists and watch as someone is crowned the third BroadwayCon Star To Be!
9:00 pm Broadway Game Night – Ziegfeld Ballroom
Special guests are kept on their toes while they keep the audience in stitches. Come join the party at Broadway Game Night!
Sunday, January 13th
11:15 am Broadway Debuts – New York Hilton Midtown
How do you make it to Broadway? This panel features five actors who made their Broadway debuts in The Cher Show, Mean Girls, The Prom, and more in a candid conversation about the work – and luck – it took to make it to the Great White Way. Moderated by Mo Brady of The Ensemblist.
12:30 pm Spotlight: My Fair Lady – Grand Ballroom
You’re in for a loverly time as cast members from My Fair Lady discuss bringing this classic musical to live in the current revival.
