John Barrowman confirms return to ‘Arrow’

John Barrowman has confirmed he will be returning to reprise his role as villain-turned-hero Malcolm Merlyn on Arrow.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Barrowman confirmed that he has already filmed a scene as The Dark Archer, but it is unclear how he will make his return since Malcolm died saving Thea from an explosion on Lian Yu during the Season 5 finale.

“I can’t tease anything about it, but I will be returning to the show this year. I just filmed some stuff for it recently. If you follow my Instagram and social media, you might’ve seen something a couple of weeks back,” Barrowman said.

However, Barrowman will be busy outside the Arrowverse for the next few weeks as he’s entered the jungle in Australia for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. The show launched on Sunday to its biggest audience in five years and Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen, is sad he missed it.

Barrowman said he will likely be in a few more Arrow episodes but show bosses understand he is currently busy in the jungle, so it will be sometime in the second half of the season before he can film more.

“Also, just before I went into isolation, they checked my availability again. We were like, ‘You guys knew the schedule. I’m not available right now, so it’ll have to be after the new year’,” he said.

Arrow airs on Mondays at 8/7c on The CW. And follow Barrowman on Twitter and Instagram
