“Timeless” Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Hollywoodland

Pssst…have you recovered from all that Lyatt goodness we got in “Hollywoodland?!” There is so much to talk about! We’ll get to those two in a few.
On this week’s episode of Timeless, the lifeboat takes us to Hollywood as our favorite Time Team are off on their next mission.
One of the best things about this show is how they truly capture and portray the time period they visit. The dialogue is distinct, the interactions are spot-on and they really know how to give you a glimpse into a certain era. They are able to accomplish this and also bring in commentary from our actual present timeline. They also know how to make the storyline exciting by clashing one era with another, which never fails to make you laugh.
Favorite lines from this episode? Oh, I’ve got plenty:
“Hamilton as a musical? It’ll never happen.”
“Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how I become a prince of a time called Bel-Air.”
“What’s a spoiler?”
“Fake news.” “Like actual fake news.”
Now that I’ve gotten those laughs out of my system, let’s carry on with the other best part of this episode.
Lyatt!
One of the best things about these two is that they can be so comfortable with each other, but at the same time, they know how to get each other’s heart racing with just the simplest interactions.
I love how the show is really devloping their relationship to be more than just platonic. The writing for these two is so well-done, and it’s easily becoming one of the most perfect love stories ever.
Lucy being forced to sing at that party, alongside Wyatt’s support in the crowd, is when everything stood still for the both of them. Time stood still and everything just fell into place. And so did my feels.
“You know you made me love…you.”
BOOM. That’s it. The camera goes straight to Wyatt. His smile, his gaze, his realization that not only is Lucy affirming that she loves him with the way she looks at him during the song, but that he is also in love with her, was absolutely beautiful.
Alongside that insanely jittery feeling it gave us, viewers were treated to another perfect moment between these two. Their sweet, tender and honest conversation by the pool made our hearts pound even harder. The way Lucy and Wyatt open up to each other just shows you how much they’re kind of on the same boat here.
I love it when shows include that “I bet you were the cool guy in high school that got all the girls” conversation we often hear, usually right before someone confesses their feelings. You really get to notice the honest side of that person and that conversation, here it basically led Wyatt to open up to Lucy.
“You saved my life, you know,” Wyatt says.
He took the mission because he didn’t care anymore, because he thought he had lost everything after he lost his wife. After meeting Lucy that all changed for him. She helped him care again. She showed him it’s possible to get a second chance at love.
As for Lucy, it seems she hasn’t exactly been in love before. To experience it with Wyatt, to allow herself to take in everything and really know this kind of emotion is a big deal for her. She even went so far as to stop caring when she thought Wyatt and Rufus were dead. She understands that feeling completely; she understands him and he understands her.
Shoutout to Matt Lanter and Abigail Spencer for absolutely selling this moment to us. Acting is an art and they have killed it so far, by really putting lots of heart and soul into these characters.
I mean, did you see Lucy jump for that kiss? The way Wyatt twirls her and holds her firmly? Did you see their lingering gaze upon each other? DID YOU SEE ALL OF IT?
*insert heart eyes emojis here*
Timeless does a phenomenal job at keeping you on your toes, because one minute it’s all smiles and happiness, the next is just…WHY, WHY, WHY?
Jessica is…alive. I have a strong feeling Emma did something to change time, just to spite Lucy and maybe more. However, for some reason, I highly believe Jessica is a part of Rittenhouse in SOME way, shape, or form.
Other thoughts:
- I don’t think Jiya is doing fine. I’m STILL worried.
- “Is this an HR issue?” I’ve been laughing way too much during this episode.
- Flynn is out now, but he better be on his best behavior.
- Rufus walking in on Lucy and Wyatt the morning after was hilarious. He is the fandom.
What did you think of this episode of Timeless? Let me know in the comments below. I highly doubt Jessica will change anything, but I’m curious to see if you all think otherwise.
Timeless airs Sundays at 10/9c on NBC
