Ava DuVernay and Ryan Coogler at Vulture Festival 2017
Two of the most insanely talented directors took to the stage at this year’s Vulture Festival in Los Angeles. As the room filled, anticipation grew stronger by the minute waiting for Ava DuVernay, best known for directing Selma, Queen Sugar, and the upcoming A Wrinkle in Time, and Ryan Coogler, best known for directing, Fruitvale Station, Creed, and the upcoming Black Panther, to make their appearance.
Once they came out they definitely did not disappoint. After speaking briefly about how they met and how they work right across from each other on the Disney Lot now, it was clear that these two had a great camaraderie.
The two then got right into talking about their new movies. Ryan Coogler spoke about some difficulties he had while making Black Panther, and a little bit about T’Challa. He even teased that we will see a scene between T’Challa and his father T’Chaka in the upcoming film.

The panel ended with a Q&A from the audience in which one fan asked about how they both have liked working with Tessa Thompson and the two had nothing but good things to say.

Before exiting the stage Ryan confessed that he would love to one day work with Ava, and Ava made time to congratulate and thank Ryan for his endless support throughout the years. It was refreshing and great seeing the two speak on stage together with such eloquence and unapologetic blackness.
