New York Comic Con 2017 Recap

Although not quite as big as San Diego Comic Con, New York Comic Con has been making its rise for years. This year seemed to prove that even more. With a record breaking number of fans hitting not only the Jacob Javits Convention Center for the show floor, panels and exclusives, but also Madison Square Garden. It was reported that over 100,000 people attended the con this year, and I was fortunate enough to be one of them. Here are some of the highlights.

  1. Pacific Rim Uprising Trailer

As a fan of the first movie and a fan of all things John Boyega, the wait for this trailer has been much anticipated. It aired to a full crowd in the Madison Square Garden on Friday and did not disappoint.

  1. Marvel’s The Runaways

After being dissapointed with Marvel because of their recent show, Inhumans, I had little faith left. But after seeing the trailer for The Runaways, I’m in. The Hulu original follows teenagers who discover their parents are super-villains in disguise and their plight away from their roots.

  1. New Justice League Trailer

The last time I saw a Justice League trailer it was when it debuted to the Hall H crowd at San Diego Comic Con, which is obviously hard to live up to, but this trailer, which shows Aquaman in action, is pretty kickass.

  1. Future Man

I don’t know any better buzzwords than Josh Hutcherson, time travel and herpes. Oh, and that Seth Rogen is connected to it all. Here’s the trailer for Future Man, premiering on Hulu November 14th.

  1. The Offsites

As usual, offsites are things you can do when you need a break from the convention or if you don’t have a badge to the convention, but still want to nerd out.

Some of this year’s offsites included:

NEW YORK, NY – OCTOBER 06: Tyler Posey poses in the Nissin Cup Noodles Lair at the annual Heroes After Dark celebration at Highline Ballroom on October 6, 2017 in New York City. Nissin Cup Noodles invited 20 lucky fans to unleash their inner superhero at the brand’s Noods Before Dark pre-party during New York Comic Con, alongside Cup Noodles enthusiast, Tyler Posey. At the exclusive pre-party for the annual Heroes After Dark celebration, Posey and VIP guests posed for an action shot in the Nissin Cup Noodles Lair with a one-of-a-kind Cup Noodles sword after they slurped on hot cups of the instant noodles. This doesn’t really count as an offsite, because technically it was in the convention center, but Sony brought a really awesome replica of  Peter Parker’s bedroom.

  1.  The Actual Comics

With all the commotion going on around the convention floor, and with pop culture seeming to completely take over comic cons, it’s hard to remember what brought everyone to the con in the first place: comics! I took a walk down Artist Alley to remember what it’s all about. I even stopped by booth #1070, Man Vs Rock and picked up a comic from them.

  1. Freeform’s Presence

It was already announced early on that Freeform would have a large presence this year, but they really did not disappoint. With activation sites and panels from Shadowhunters, Beyond, new series Siren and a tease of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger.
