16th Annual Tribeca Film Festival Special Events

The 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival will take place from April 19 to April 30 in venues across Lower Manhattan. Talk Nerdy will be in attendance, so be sure to follow us on Twitter and Instagram to keep up with all the announcements.

This year’s ceremony opens with bang! Starting at Radio City Music Hall with the world premiere of the feature documentary Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of Our Lives. The documentary will be followed by a special concert featuring performances by Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Earth, Wind & Fire, and more that have yet to be announced.

While the full line-up is still under wraps, a couple highlights have been announced for the festival. For starters, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: The Bad Boy Story documentary, the World Premiere of James Ponsoldt’s The Circle, starring Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, House of Z, a documentary that follows fashion superstar Zac Posen, and The Public Image is Rotten, a documentary about Sex Pistols’ lead singer Johnny Rotten (AKA John Lydon). Mohegan Sun will kick off The Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival with he World Premiere of Mike and the Mad Dog. 

The festival will also highlight anniversaries including the 25thanniversary of Aladdin with a special sing-along, the 25th anniversary of Reservoir Dogs, followed by a conversation with director Quentin Tarantino and members of the cast. This year will also be the 15th anniversary of the attack on Columbine, so the film Bowling for Columbine will screen on April 20th, the day the attack took place, followed by a discussion with director Michael Moore.

To close the Festival, Tribeca will celebrate the 45th anniversary of The Godfather’s theatrical release with an offer that you can’t refuse. They will hold a screening of both The Godfather and The Godfather Part II back-to-back at Radio City Music Hall on Saturday, April 29. This will be followed by a panel discussion with Academy Award-winning director Francis Ford Coppola as well as actors Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, and the festival’s founder, Robert De Niro.
