Rachel Lindsay is going to find love…just not with Nick Viall. The 31-year old attorney from Dallas was announced as the next Bachelorette on Monday night’s episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”
This news release just mere hours after she was shown in the latest episode of “The Bachelor.” In that episode, she secured herself a spot in hometown dates episode that will air next week.
The official announcement isn’t typically made this early, especially not before the potential person has been eliminated from the current season. However, the news is not a total surprise. Many websites confirmed Lindsay’s casting on Monday afternoon, while ABC executives, including showrunner Mike Fleiss, have hinted that the franchise was about to subvert expectations.
She talked more about her upcoming season on “Good Morning America” Tuesday morning. Lindsay said she doesn’t feel added pressure being the first person of color lead in the franchise. “I’m honored to have this opportunity, and I do hope people rally behind me like they did in Nick’s season, and realize that my journey is just trying to find love. Even though I’m an African-American woman, I’m no different from any other Bachelorette.”
Viall commented on the casting news on his Instagram, posting a sweet message saying that he was “so proud and so happy” for her.
Personally, I could not be more excited about this news. I’ve been on Team Rachel since I watched the first episode.
