TNWU Weekly Superlatives (January 8th-15th)

TALK NERDY WITH US WEEKLY TV SUPERLATIVE AWARDS:

MOST BADASS CHARACTER: EMERALD CITY

Florence Kasumba as Wicked Witch of the East

Forget West, Florence Kasumba was so scary, so menacing, so awful that she gave me the shivers every time she showed up on screen. She imprisoned people alive in impenetrable ooze and mud and could torture people with a twist of her wrist.

Best One-Liner: MACgYVER

George Eads and Lucas Till AKA MACJACK

The MacJack bromance is becoming one of the best things about the new MacGyver. On the verge of being killed (again), Mac asks Jack if he has any last words. Jack gives him a look and says, “ I’m not going to tell you I love you.”

mOST lOVEABLE cHARACTER: sHADOWHUTERS

Simon Lewis

I think we can all admit that Simon is the nerd of our dreams but he was extra loveable during this week’s episode. He’s afraid of a whole host of things and he even labeled himself a “scrappy nerd from Brooklyn”. On his search for his sire with his new downworld dad Magnus, he was cornered by a fire breathing snake that would have scared anyone. Finally, he did his first successful encanto and sent the snake away. I was so proud of him and then he did his happy dance. What is there not to love!?

bAD gUY OF THE week: Emerald City

The wizard of oz

This is no bumbling, befuddled lost shyster. This is Donald Trump with decent hair and prettier minions. He is a dictator, a murderer (he burned all of “his” guards alive for suspecting a traitor), and a deceiver. He has kiboshed magic for “the good of the people” but in reality he doesn’t want the witches’ competition.  He isn’t going to give up Oz to anyone, no matter who he has to kill to keep it.

Best Kiss: The Librarians

Cassandra Kisses Estrella

Cassandra’s brain tumor is getting worse and she’s refusing the surgery that could save her. She meets Estrella at a spa run by vampires that claims to cure the incurable. Estrella tries to convince Cassandra to stay, and you can feel something growing between them. In the end Cassandra gets the surgery and stays with her fellow librarians, but goes back to the spa to say goodbye to Estrella – and they exchange a heartfelt, loving kiss.

(Honourable Mention: Eleanor and Jasper – The Royals)

BEST Dressed: eLEMENTARY

sHERLOCK

Sherlock is always the dapper English gentleman, whether he’s extricating blood samples from sand, rooting through garbage, or chasing bad guys through NYC traffic.

(Honourable Mention: Dorothy in her Mistress of the East ensemble.)

Most Heartbreaking Moment: EMERALD cITY

tIP pUSHING jACK TO HIS DEATH

Tip is having a very difficult time accepting that she was born a girl, and can’t go back to the boy she believed she was for so many years. Her steadfast friend Jack insists everything will be okay…Then moves in to kiss her. Tip recoils, pushes Jack away, causing him to crash through a railing and fall to his death.

bEST pLOT-tWIST: MacGyveR

tHORNTON IS THE MOLE AT Pheonix

Say what??? Thornton was the name of the head of the original Phoenix Foundation in 80’s Macgyver, so it was a nice twist making the new Thornton a woman.  But when Nikki comes back (again) claiming there’s a mole in the government and the Phoenix Foundation, my jaw just hit the ground when it turned out to be…Thornton.  Who’s going to head Phoenix now?? What would Dana Elcar say??

pERFORMER OF THE WEEK: EMERALD ciTY

ANNA ULARU

In a show with so many amazing performers, Anna Ularu stands out as West (as in Witch of). She is like no other West I’ve seen ever – an opiate addict, a prostitute and madam, and a woman filled with so much self loathing she hates her own magic. Ularu’s performance is wild, untamed and passionate. When West cried while talking to the wizard, I cried right along with her

  1. Simon definitely is one of the most lovable characters on TV right now, just the right amount of nerdy and funny. Makes Shadowhunters so much better!
And that MacGyver Thornton plot twist, didn’t see that coming and am sad to see Thornton go. Who will Jack annoy now? On top of that Nikki being the good guy, too? TV show twists at their best on that MacGyver episode.
