Interior Artwork Released for ROYAL CITY

This week, Image Comics revealed a preview of the inner artwork for ROYAL CITY, written and illustrated by New York Times bestselling author Jeff Lemire.

“ROYAL CITY is the first ongoing series that I have both written and drawn since Sweet Tooth and it’s definitely my most ambitious and personal project to date,” said Lemire.

Following a family in a story spanning three generations, ROYAL CITY’s artwork is both raw and revealing, expressing the characters’ emotions and action in a gritty style that captures the eye and draws you in. (Ha! Pun!) Patrick Pike’s entrance in issue #1 is haunting.

The strain is evident on his face as he speaks with his publisher on his way to see his ailing father. Trying to negotiate his past-due deadline, Patrick’s hollowed eyes and lined face perfectly convey the stress of sick family combined with the deadline looming over his head.

Two pages later, Patrick has a close encounter of the kid-in-the-middle-of-the-road kind. Lemire combines character art seamlessly with background and inanimate objects to create a believable scene that pulls you in and keeps you turning page after page.

ROYAL CITY #1 hits stores Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Hurry to grab the first issue of what promises to be a literary and visual masterpiece!
