Exilium Announces That “Vandal” Begins Filming in Miami

Exilium, a Miami-based production company, announced today that its new feature film, Vandal, an authentic drama about art, love, war, and the depths of the street graffiti game, will begin shooting next month in Miami’s Wynwood, Little Havana, and Little Haiti neighborhoods. The screenplay, which was written by Paul Taegel and Jose Daniel “Jaydee” Freixas (Magic City Memoirs), will be Freixas’ directorial debut and the film will be produced by Tony Gonzalez.  Executive Producers include Rob Weiss (“Entourage,” “Ballers”) and legendary graffiti artist Kelly “Risk” Graval.  Other Executive Producers are Marco Vicini, Los Arias, and Armando Perez.

Vandal is set in present day Miami.  The film is a gritty drama about a Cuban-American graffiti artist, Nick Cruz (also known as Damage) who leads an infamous crew waging an all-city graffiti assault against his longtime rival, Sizmik.  Daniel Zovatto will star in the lead role of Nick Cruz.  Zovatto is most widely known for the roles he has played in “It Follows,” “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Don’t Breathe.”

Beau Knapp will play his rival Sizmik.  Beau is currently shooting Deathwish, for MGM, where he plays the villain opposite Bruce Willis.  Knapp is known for his roles in Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw, Tale Shalom-Ezer’s Mercy, The Nice Guys, opposite Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, as well as his lead role in Oscar award-winning director, Ang Lee’s film, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.  Also starring is Miami-native, Otmara Marrero, from Crackle’s “Startup” who plays Sofia “Silk” Campos.

Jose Daniel “Jaydee” Freixas is a Cuban-American filmmaker who is recognized for co-writing and producing the award-winning independent film Magic City Memoirs, which was also optioned for a television pilot script at FOX.  His production company, Exilium, is based in Miami, Florida and was founded by Freixas and Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez is a film producer and founder of the boutique record label, Rock the Moon. He is known for developing and representing GRAMMY-nominated artists Locos Por Juana, El B, Tomas Diaz and Osmani Garcia.

Exilium recently optioned the rights to T.J. English’s forthcoming book “The Corporation” to Paramount, with Academy Award-winning actor, Benicio del Toro, attached to star as Cuban-mob boss Jose Miguel Battle Sr. Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio will produce, along with Freixas and Gonzalez, as well as Appian Way’s Jenifer Davisson Killoran, and the Picture Company’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman.
