30 Songs, 30 Days Project Aims at Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump

This election year has been… interesting. It seems like a million years ago that Donald Trump won the Republican nomination over a handful of very qualified candidates, several semi-qualified candidates, and a mildly qualified candidate or two. With the presidential election quickly approaching and our time immersed in the many scandals of Donald Trump nearly ending, 30 musical artists have worked together to send him off with a bang.

Beginning today (October 10), the 30 Days, 30 Songs project has launched in support of defeating Trump. Each day, a new song will be released at 9 am Pacific beginning with the first offering, Death Cab for Cutie’s “Million Dollar Loan.”

“Lyrically, ‘Million Dollar Loan’ deals with a particularly tone-deaf moment in Donald Trump’s ascent to the Republican nomination,” explains Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. “While campaigning in New Hampshire last year, he attempted to cast himself as a self-made man by claiming he built his fortune with just a ‘small loan of a million dollars’ from his father. Not only has this statement been proven to be wildly untrue, he was so flippant about it. It truly disgusted me. Donald Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he is unworthy of the honor and responsibility of being President of the United States of America, and in no way, shape or form represents what this country truly stands for. He is beneath us.”

Upcoming tracks will include songs by Jim James, Aimee Mann, Thao Nguyen, and others as well as an unreleased live song by R.E.M. Each song will be available for purchase that day with proceeds going towards the Center for Popular Democracy.
