Trophy Eyes Release New Music Video, Announce Album

Hailing from the “Land Down Under,” alternative punk band Trophy Eyes announced a new album titled Chemical Miracle set for a fall release via Hopeless Records!
Having beginnings in Newcastle, Australia in 2013, Trophy Eyes was eager to break into the music industry, releasing their first demo that included the songs “Chacho” and “Personal Taste” in April of the same year.
The following year, the quintet released Everything Goes Away EP which differed from the previous demo in that the EP chronicled a critical 4-year time period of a member’s life. During this time, he experienced a range of various pains, including the loss of family members, and both personal and outside addictions. The EP reflects his feelings during this time, as well as the idea that everything changes and everyone has their own way of dealing with things.
In November of the same year, Trophy Eyes released their first full-length album titled Mend, Move On.
Shortly afterward, the group was invited to join Warped Tour for the 2015 season, after which they debuted the single “Tired Hearts.”
Now, the group is set to release their second full-length album through Hopeless Records. Chemical Miracle is dated to drop on October 14th, but fans are able to get a first glimpse of the album’s opening song “Chlorine.” Trophy Eyes publicized the music video for the single on August 3rd to celebrate the announcement of the new album. Watch the video below.
From what I can gather from the lyrics that are provided in the description of the video, the narrator is questioning the finality of life: Who makes these decisions? Why is one person taken over another? Why are some of the best people taken too soon? For instance, even though someone had the courage to carry out a heroic act of saving another from drowning, the act itself ultimately took the savior’s life.
The opening lyrics “I’m still breathing” are tranquil and have something of a magical quality to them, reminiscent of the wonderment of a lazy summer day by the pool. But the backing music is fast-paced, countering the peace with a heart-pounding anxiety of the fateful tragedy.
A more somber tone is introduced as the narrator and music slows to recount, “I heard they cut you down in your own bedroom./I wonder if you’d still remember.”
The pace quickens a bit as the chorus kicks in, reminding listeners that even though we may not like it at times, life does carry on, sometimes without the people who matter most to us. However, we have our memories to look back upon, something we must cherish and hold close to keep those people who may not be around anymore alive in some way.
