Stranger Things Renewed, Everything We Know So Far

Netflix announced today that Stranger Things would be renewed for a second season. If you are into binge watching or have been on social media at all, then you have heard of Netflix’s show. The streaming service released it this year and people can not seem to stop talking about it.

The drama stars award-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, who lives in a small Indiana town in 1983. The show really captures the essence of what it was like living in the 80s. However, the nostalgia wears off after only a few minutes when you see Joyce’s 12-year-old son, Will, goes missing, and Joyce finds herself dealing with a very strange investigation to get him back.

As they search for answers, they unravel a series of extraordinary mysteries involving secret government experiments, unnerving supernatural forces, and a very unusual little girl named Eleven.

Netflix said fans can expect Stranger Things 2 to debut in 2017. Both Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (writers and creators) will return to helm the second season. In addition, Netflix ordered nine episodes (versus season ones eight), and added that the show will be produced by 21 Laps for Netflix.

Executive producers Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and the Duffer brothers will all return.

Talk Nerdy With Us has also learned that all of the original cast will return to the show. In addition, the show will expand geographically and within the first few minutes of Season 2, Episode 1 fans can expect to see outside of Hawkins (the fictional town the story takes place in).

Fans can also expect to see the addition of four new characters, more about Eleven, and more scenes in that “Upside Down” world. The Duff brothers spoke with Entertainment Weekly after the announcement and said:

“We kinda just peeled back the curtain and revealed a tiny bit of the Upside Down. So we definitely want to explore a little bit more,” said Matt Duffers.

“There’s a lot we don’t know about the Upside Down at the end of season 1. We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us, it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.”

With various inspirations of horror and action movies (specifically James Cameron) from the 80s, there is way more “strange” things to come.

“I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original,” said Duffer. “So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work.”

Stranger Things 2 will return in 2017.
