Los Angeles based band BLACKMORE will be releasing their new album “NEO” on July 22. It’s their first release with new vocalist K’noup (formerly of Viza) and it’s an explosive one. Starting out with grinding “Tsunami,” the album is an exploration of the questions and problems pervading the world right now. K’noup’s vocals are incredibly strong and passionate, perfectly balanced between melodic and in your face – “God Sells” isn’t letting anyone off the hook. Musically, the band isn’t afraid to experiment with sound, be it on the guitar or keyboard. The later features prominently on the third track, “Starlord.” The guitar riffs are very tremolo heavy, and call to mind Sinister of Avenged Sevenfold. In fact, BLACKMORE and “NEO” call to mind Avenged Sevenfold at many turns; sharing the raw energy and excitement of the later band’s early releases. Check out my favorite tracks, “3 Ballets,” “Out of Reach” and the last, brilliant track “A Cold Night (Icarus Song).” This is thrash at its very best and I look forward to hearing more of BLACKMORE in the (hopefully near) future.
