Sum 41 Announces Return with “13 Voices”

It has been 15 years since the release of Sum 41’s debut studio album, All Killer, No Filler, cracked the Billboard top 20 and launched the band towards the head of the oversized pack of pop-punk bands that arrived with the new millennium. Those 15 years have seen a lot of ups and downs, from working with Iggy Pop and hitting the Billboard top-10 twice, to a hiatus and lead singer Deryck Whibley’s announcement of liver and kidney failure caused by excessive drinking.
With a new perspective on life the band’s latest album, 13 Voices, was written. Set to be released October 7th on Hopeless Records, 13 Voices is the band’s first album since 2011.
“I am really excited to be releasing an album after everything I’ve been through recently,” said Whibley. “This new music represents the journey I’ve been on throughout the process of making this record. I had to fall in order to rise, and nothing feels better than to have something you love that you had to really fight for. I can honestly say that 13 Voices saved my life and I cannot wait to share it with all of you.”
The story of 13 Voices dates back to the end of Whibley’s four-month hospital stay. Having to relearn anything involving motor skills, from playing guitar all the way to walking, the album began to take shape as his health improved.
“It was really difficult, but at the same time, if I didn’t have a record to make, I don’t think I would have recovered as quickly. Writing music gave me a purpose. I had to get better,” recalled Whibley.
Leading up to the release of the album, Sum 41 will play the 2016 Warped Tour beginning June 22 and ending August 7.
