Saints Row Creator Announces New IP

Volition is making waves yet again in the video game world with the announcement of Agents of Mayhem, a high-octane, open-world superhero game set in the same universe as its popular Saints Row series.

While the first Saints Row game mimicked Grand Theft Auto when it came to crime drama, it was enough of a success to warrant several sequels and once the Saints Row universe took a turn for the wild and weird with its parodic nature in Saints Row: The Third, the series exploded. Saints Row 4 (and its spin-off, Gat Out of Hell) only continued the trend by blowing up the Earth and plunging the Saints into a Matrix-like world run by alien invaders known as the Zin and giving the characters radical superpowers in the process. The success of this no doubt inspired Agents of Mayhem.

Agents of Mayhem pits the aptly named “Agents of M.A.Y.H.E.M.” against the villainous “L.E.G.I.O.N.” in a series of battles across a futuristic urban landscape. Between encounters with the game’s superpower-equipped enemies, players will explore a massive open world in search of side quests and unlockable content similar to how they’ve done before in previous titles.

Players control a squad of three characters in Agents of Mayhem, recalling the protagonist switching mechanics of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V. Each character brings their own weapons and abilities into battle, allowing players to outfit their squad to suit current mission objectives.

It’s still unknown if the game will sport a co-op campaign as they did before or how many will be able to play at once (I’m hoping at least four this time around) and many other details remain scarce as well. Look for more coming out of E3 this weekend.
