Red Sun Rising’s “Emotionless” Reaches #1

Red Sun Rising is one of the most exciting rock bands to emerge in recent years.

– Indie label Razor & Tie co-owner Cliff Chenfeld

Cleveland, Ohio rock band Red Sun Rising has recently had the honor of becoming the first independent artist to have two #1 active rock singles from a debut album when their single “Emotionless” reached number one on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart. This marks the end of a period over a decade long in which back-to-back number one singles were nonexistent for bands.

Both “Emotionless” and “The Otherside,” Red Sun Rising’s first number one single, are from the band’s first LP Polyester Zeal, which was released last August through Razor & Tie. With Red Sun Rising’s achievement of back-to-back number one singles, Razor & Tie has simultaneously become the first independent record label to have back-to-back number one rock radio hits from an artist’s debut album in almost twenty years! The band and the label have both responded ecstatically and appreciatively to the news of topping the charts twice in a row.

Guitarist and lead singer Mike Protich stated, “Amazing! What else can I say? The radio support we have received across the country is both humbling and an honor. We would not be in this position if it weren’t for America’s great rock radio stations and the best rock fans in the world.”

Chenfeld included, “Their [Red Sun Rising’s] success at radio is only the first step in bringing them to wide acclaim. At Razor & Tie, we are committed to great new rock bands, and we are proud to partner with Red Sun Rising.”

Comprised of Mike Protich on guitar and lead vocals, guitarist Ryan Williams, Ricky Miller on vocals and bass, Dave McGarry on vocals and guitar, and Pat Gerasia on drums, Red Sun Rising got its start performing locally and touring the Midwest. Social media and simple word-of-mouth allowed the band to promote their music and begin building a loyal fan-base.

Now, not only is the band able to appreciate having two number one back-to-back singles, but they are also able to enjoy touring all over the country and to share their music live from coast to coast. Following the close of their Canadian tour dates with Pop Evil and Smashing Satellites, Red Sun Rising is now touring the United States to support Polyester Zeal, which will continue into the summer season.

Additionally, the band will support Sick Puppies for multiple dates on The Harddrive Live Tour, as well as perform at a number of festivals, including WXTB Rockfest, Welcome to Rockville, Fort Rock, and Carolina Rebellion. A complete set of upcoming tour dates can be found at the end of this article.
