The star-studded event to honor the duo includes Garry Marshall, Seth MacFarlane, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, and Paget Brewster, with scheduled musical performances by the Beach Boys and Amber Riley. The event will air on TV Land on April 17 at 9PM ET/PT.
It was announced today that TV Land Icon Awards in partnership with Entertainment Weekly had chosen two nominees to honor – prolific television creator Norman Lear, and pop culture icon John Stamos. Comedian George Lopez will host the event, which will also honor the very best of television and entertainment. The show will tape on Sunday April 10th at the Barker Hanger in L.A. and will air the following Sunday, April 17th on TV Land at 9PM ET/PT.
Three time Emmy Award winner Norman Lear will be honored with the Impact Icon Award, which praises individuals that have made a significant contribution to American television entertainment and culture. The incomparable Lear has been in the entertainment business for more than 60 years, creating some of the most unforgettable television sitcoms of all time, including Maude, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, All in the Family, One Day at a Time, and Good Times, to name a few. These shows have entertained viewers across generations and remain today as some of pop culture’s favorites. In addition to being a multiple Emmy winner, Lear has also received the National Medal of the Arts and a Peabody Award amongst numerous other accolades. Oscar, Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winner Rita Moreno and Jimmie Walker will be on hand for the celebration as well as Glee star and recording artist Amber Riley, along with others to be announced, will perform a special medley of all of Lear’s television theme songs. The Impact Icon Award will be presented to Lear by television and film creator Seth MacFarlane.
Also being honored at this year’s ceremony is John Stamos, who will receive the Timeless Pop Icon Award, presented to an entertainer whose extraordinary work spans generations. Stamos is noted for his roll on Full House, Jesse Katsopolis, a role he recently reprised on Fuller House which debuted in February on Netflix. He began his career as foster teen (and heartthrob) Blackie Parrish on General Hospital in 1982. After Full House, Stamos went on to star on several seasons of ER as Dr. Tony Gates. He also played the title role in Jake in Progress, and currently stars on the Fox TV show, Grandfathered. Stamos’ long time co-stars and friends Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin, his Grandfathered co-stars Paget Brewster and Josh Peck, renowned television creator and film producer Garry Marshall will present him with his award. As part of his tribute, Grammy winning band The Beach Boys will perform a medley of their hit songs.
