Many fans are very worried for Jane and Michael after last night’s episode of Jane the Virgin. They are concerned that now that the pair are trying to get back together, everything will inevitably go wrong.
Check out some of these fan theories regarding what may or may not break up the happy couple this time:
As much as I love all of the Jane/Michael stuff going on right now, I just know the writers are going to fuck it up somehow.

^^^^^^^^ I hope they last a little longer. But yeah, some dramatic thing is gonna happen and Michael is gonna fuck up and they’ll break up. It always happens. ?
okay, like, right now the only thing that could break up Michael and Jane would be if we learn it was him who killed Rose. (cause, you know, he knew Mutter’s killing style, Mutter had no reason to kill sin Rostro, Michael was really mad at Rose about all the shit she has done, and he also wanted to get back with Jane)
I DON’T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN,BUT I HAVE A FEELING IT PROBABLY WILL
do you think michael/jane is endgame? I’m a diehard jafael shipper, but it’s looking pretty bleak for us atm.
neistat replied:trickyyy… i’m gonna say no.
(a little rant on telenovelas under the cut)
i don’t know how to explain in a non-biased way that won’t destroy or get hopes up too high but i’ll try my best:
jane the virgin is a telenovela that is based on another telenovela in which juana and mauricio (the equivalent of jane and rafael) are the fate/meant-to-be endgame against all odds: their differences, family disapproval, exes, etc (things that we see represented in jane the virgin).
michael isn’t even present in the original story. people say juana has an annoying friend who doesn’t approve her relationship with mauricio and is probably who michael is based on but there’s no romance between them, he’s just another obstacle to juana and mauricio and as far as i know there’s no word from jennie confirming or denying the relation between this character and michael.
now, in general the telenovela narrative is very much about fanatasy and fairy tales and destiny and sacrifices and beating all odds to be together. no telenovela survives on “these two similar people are in love and they have a healthy and stable relationship for 200 chapters”. no way. however the main story of a telenovela is pretty much the same in almost all of them. ask anyone who has ever seen at least 5 telenovelas and they’ll tell you that the majority (if not all) of them consist on: poor character and rich character meet in extraordinary circumstances and fall in love. and from there on it’s a long journey against disapproving families, ex spouses, jealous friends, etc. that’s pretty much the recipe for any telenovela.
and that’s what juana la virgen is about, this poor girl gets artificially inseminated with a rich man’s sperm and along the waythey fall in love and fight against the oh-so-cruel world that doesn’t want to see them together, and against all odds end up together happily ever after with their baby.
but regardless of the original story, the point is, telenovela romances needobstacles and they have to be hard, there has to be a difficult journey where we see personal growth, development and sacrifice. characters have flaws and do stupid things that ruins relationships and everything always feels very permanent. but in telenovelas things fall off and get build back up again, over and over and over and over again. they are always closing doors but they never lock it. it’s the telenovela way. it’s fast, it’s always changing and it’s messy.
so, in a telenovela point of view, having all the odds against jane and rafael right now, in the middle of the season, is probably not the worst thing that could happen?????
idk that’s honestly how i feel right now. if the season goes on and everything goes super smooth for jane and michael forever and they become the perfect couple and get married and stay together until the end, that’ll mean jennie urman gave up on writing a telenovela.
and by the way i’m not saying “if jane and michael end up together jennie urman will have disrespected telenovelas forever!!!!1!” because jane and michael, as a couple, also have their difficulties and the rest of the season gives room for more obstacles (rafael being one of them) and jane and michael will either fight together against them or fall apart because of them.
but what lacks in jane x michael are the fate and sacrifices factor. there’s no out of this world circumstance that puts them together and being together doesn’t affect other part of their lives. they’re the kind of couple that kills telenovelas like i’ve said before. i mean, according to the promo for tonight’s episode (chapter 35) their main problem will be a too supportive family??? so yeah, the telenovela spirit is missing there.
tl;dr: imho i don’t think michael and jane are endgame because they lack the telenovela spark which is basically everything that jane and rafael are built on but i don’t completely throw the michael end game off the table now because this is still a telenovela with lots of plot twists and surprises.
What do you think? Will Jane and Michael last this time or will they break up again?
