Head Back to School with Marvel Avengers Academy

Ever speculated what your favorite Avenger would be like on campus? Now you can see it in TinyCo‘s newest mobile title! For those unaware, there actually is a Marvel comic series called Avengers Academy, based around new young superheroes mastering their abilities.
This game does not reflect that – it’s centered around a de-aged school situation where you’ll meet young versions of favorites like Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon, Captain America, and more.
In this city-building title, you’ll be tasked to recruit new students to the academy and expand the school itself with the help of Nick Fury and Pepper Potts, acting as a headmaster and administrative assistant respectively.
You’ll also face foes from HYDRA School (which seems to be next door) as well as other notable baddies in the Marvel universe!
Game Tip: Prioritize story quests first — these offer a bigger payout of items, coins, and the like. They also help unlock new items in store quicker, since you’ll level up faster.
Actual gameplay is similar to that in TinyCo‘s other hit game, Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff. It’s mainly task-based and you’ll find yourself assigning said tasks to the heroes you’ve recruited thus far.
The tasks given are a mix of hero action, typical school activities, and socializing. Imagine Wasp taking selfies while Cap campaigns to be student body president as Hawkeye sneaks in some archery practice!
Also soon to be added is a dating ability as well, which admittedly has me curious as to how that will be approached. The tasks all vary in length, giving the game a time-management element as well.
Once tasks are complete, you’ll be given items used to upgrade heroes, buildings, or recruit new heroes. Your heroes will level up as well, and as they level up, so do their outfits until they are wearing their more recognizable suits – meaning you’ll see Iron Man in his full Mark-II suit when he’s completely leveled!
Game Tip: Manage your time effectively when choosing quests! For example, do longer quests when you’ll be away from the game for a wider spectrum of time.
One thing that makes The Quest For Stuff successful is FOX Entertainment/Family Guy staff’s direct involvement with it. While you won’t hear Robert Downey Jr. reprising his role here, they did seek out quite the exciting cast–
The role of Tony Stark/Iron Man is played by Dave Franco, the younger brother of James Franco. He’s noted for roles in the 21 Jump Street film and Warm Bodies, as well as being a part of Scrubs‘ ninth season.
Also onboard this cast is Priyanka Chopra of Quantico fame as Ms. Marvel, Colton Haynes (Arrow, Teen Wolf) as Thor, and WWE Superstar John Cena as The Hulk!
The voice acting in this game is pretty impressive – I was particularly excited by the voice work of rapper A$AP Rocky who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon – I actually thought it was Anthony Mackie, the actor behind Sam Wilson in the Avengers film franchise upon first hearing him! It’s clear that care was put into aligning proper voices with these beloved characters, which is a huge plus.
In the end, this is a game that doesn’t have a lot of game in it – meaning that it should not be looked at and compared to other Marvel mobile titles like Contest of Champions or Future Fight that involve a lot more skill and strategy.
Avengers Academy is a great bit of Marvel fan service, giving you a light-hearted version of the Avengers timeline, full of fun jokes and references that even the most seasoned Marvel fanatic would get a kick out of.
