Progressive indie pop musicians Alvarez Kings have announced their support on the Cry Baby Tour with Melanie Martinez. The tour will promote Martinez’s debut album Cry Baby across the United States.
Having beginnings in South Yorkshire of the UK, Alvarez Kings is composed of brothers Simon and Paul Thompson, Sean Parkin, and Richard Walker. The quartet had immediate success, selling out shows in their hometown, and their first two releases, a single titled “The Sequel,” and Patience is Strength EP. Even more, their single “No Resolve” was awarded Single of the Year by BBC Radio. Alvarez Kings has also won local awards of Best Band and Best EP.
Alvarez Kings has had numerous tours through Europe, as well as in the United States, including the Vans Warped Tour. Impressed with their talents, Warped Tour owner Kevin Lyman invited the Kings to perform at Alexandra Palace in London during Warped UK, as well as the entirety of the 2015 United States tour. Additionally, Warped opened the door to reality TV for the band. The members were featured on the second season of Fuse TV’s “Warped Roadies.”
Furthering their progress, a deal between Alvarez Kings and Warner Brothers/Sire Records was made in 2015. Through the label, the EP Fear to Feel was released, differentiating in the typical indie-rock sound of the band. Instead, the band decided to go in the direction of a bigger pop aesthetic. And most recently, the group released a live session video of “Tortured and the Tears.” Listen to it here on YouTube.
Now Alvarez Kings will be adding another chapter to their triumphant story as they head out for The Cry Baby Tour with Melanie Martinez. Martinez first appeared on the third season of The Voice, and saw success when she signed a deal with Atlantic Records. Through the label, Martinez released Cry Baby. The sound of Alvarez Kings is thought to be a good match to offset Martinez’s theatricality and raspy vocal work.
The Cry Baby Tour will start off in Seattle, Washington at the Showbox on February 20th, and continue well into March. Alvarez Kings will play additional shows in the UK in April with their mates PVRIS.
