News: High School Musical Reunion
In celebration of the ten-year anniversary of High School Musical, many of the film’s stars are reuniting during the special telecast Wednesday, January 20th on Disney Channel. Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman all joined together to film nostalgic interstitial segments today at a high school gymnasium in suburban Los Angeles. Film’s lead Zac Efron is also participating in the telecast with a pre-taped message to fans. The cast was also interviewed by Radio Disney’s Ernie D and that interview can be seen during a “Radio Disney Insider” presented Thursday, January 21 on Disney Channel and the Radio Disney app.
Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “Seeing the cast of High School Musical back together again reaffirms what made it special 10 years ago. It’s their optimism, their dedication and their extraordinary talent — as a group — that made this such an exceptional movie and cultural phenomenon. Ten years later, the movie continues to delight audiences around the globe, not just for its memorable song and dance numbers, but for its universal themes that continue to resonate with fans everywhere – express yourself, believe in yourself and always follow your dreams.”
High School Musical premiered January 20, 2006, delivering 7.7 million total viewers in the U.S.– at the time, the highest ratings for any telecast ever on Disney Channel. Due to its popularity, Disney Channel later aired a High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3 became a feature film. High School Musical is still popular with new viewers but will also hold a special place in the hearts of many who fell in love with its story line and music back when it premiered. This anniversary telecast should appeal to both groups.
So, whether High School Musical brings you nostalgic feels or is new to your radar, join the cast for this special telecast on Disney Channel on January 20th. You can also watch subsequent telecasts of the movie and its sequel, “High School Musical 2,” on Thursday, January 21 and Sunday, January 24 on Disney Channel.
