Cover Wars: In the Night

The Weeknd

“In the Night” is the fourth single from The Weeknd’s second album, Beauty Behind the Madness. Like The Weeknd’s previous collaboration with producer, Max Martin, this song is widely compared to Michael Jackson, and in particular “Dirty Diana.”

The Weeknd’s real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye and he is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer. He released his debut album in 2013 and his second studio album, Beauty Behind the Madness was his first number one album on the Billboard 200 Chart.

The music video for “In the Night” was released on December 8, 2015 and features Abel’s girlfriend, Bella Hadid as a waitress at a seedy nightclub where Abel takes a liking to Bella’s character and watches her and the other dancers be taken advantage of by a group of gangsters, eventually ending in a gangster’s death.

“In the Night” peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and number 5 on the US Mainstream Billboard Top 40 Chart. The Weeknd also performed the song at the most recent Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.

At first I thought “In the Night” sounded and felt like every other Weeknd song on the planet, but over time it grew on me and now it is one my favorite car jam songs. I love how The Weeknd can put serious tones into songs that don’t sound serious in manner. I definitely regret putting off this song for so long, because it is amazing. So to make up for fighting the genius that is The Weeknd, here are my Top 4 covers of “In the Night” by The Weeknd, don’t forget to vote for your favorite below!
