Shari Belafonte Joins General Hospital

Shari Belafonte, daughter of famed crooner Harry Belafonte, has joined the cast of ABC’s General Hospital.  She takes over the role of Mayor Janice Lomax from Saidah Arrika Ekulona. Harper’s first air date will be Tuesday, January 19.

Ironically, Belafonte has a prior history to General Hospital.  She was married to Sam Behrens, who played Jake Meyer from 1983 to 1988.  Jake was married to Bobbie Spencer, aunt to Valerie, who will play a part in the mayor’s storyline as Mayor Lomax will have questions for Police Commissioner Jordan Asford regarding Valerie’s connection to escapee Johnny Zacchara.

General Hospital airs weekdays at 3pm/2c on ABC.
