Man Crush Everyday: John Boyega
The newest addition to the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has taken the world by storm and smashed multiple box office records. The movie introduces us to three leading characters that will carry the series into new territory. John Boyega plays Finn, a First Order storm trooper that is on the run. John has proven time after time to be an amazing actor as well as a wonderful person, so here is a spoiler free explanation as to why we can expect big things from this young actor.
- He comes from humble beginnings.
John was handpicked by an Artistic Director in his hometown of Peckham, London to attend a theatre school for talented children. He was able to attend the school through a hardship scholarship and became involved in various theater productions, including the leading role in Othello. The 23-year-old explained his astonishing rise during an interview on Sway in the Morning. He hasn’t forgotten where he came from and the opportunities that have led him to where he is today.
- His mentor is Robert Downey Jr.
As the media buzz surrounding him starts to build, he has the perfect person to turn to for advice: Robert Downey Jr. John has really showcased his charming sense of humor on the press tour, so it’s easy to see why the two get along so well.
- He knows how to shut down haters in the classiest way possible.
In a recent interview with V Magazine the actor said, “[The negativity] was unnecessary … I’m in the movie, what are you going to do about it? You either enjoy it or you don’t. I’m not saying get used to the future, but what is already happening. People of color and women are increasingly being shown on-screen. For things to be whitewashed just doesn’t make sense.”
